Services
Currently we offer clinical services for patients with eye diseases, including low vision rehabilitation.
Further we provide training for registrars of the University of Nairobi, Cataract Surgeons of Kenya Medical
Training Center as well as Ophthalmic Assistants from several health institutions.
We follow the
National Strategic Plan for Eye Care in Kenya 2005-2010 and are approved for specialist recognition training
in ophthalmology by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board of Kenya.
Short glossary of different machines for the treatment of the eye (part of the equipment of Sabatia Eye Hospital):
- YAG laser (Zeiss VisuLas III) for the
treatment of posterior capsule opacification (hazy vision after cataract
surgery, secondary cataract)
- Diode laser for the treatment of diabetic changes in the back of the eye (diabetic retinopathy).
- A Vitrectomy (Alcon Surgical MVS XII)
machine which allows us to operate on children with cataract including anterior vitrectomy.
- Anaesthetic machine and a qualified anaesthetist to provide general
anaesthesia for children and sometimes adults.
- Phacoemulsification which performs a gentle cataract removal with ultrasound.
- Biometry Unit for accurate calculation of the power of the lens which is inserted in cataract surgery.
- Five slit lamps in the clinic and one in the ward – for thorough eye examination.
- Zeiss Operating teaching microscope – for training of residents in cataract surgery.
- Fully equipped sterilization unit
