Sabatia Eye Hospital is a leading not-for-profit and independent referral eye hospital based in the western part of Kenya. It is one of the few tertiary eye hospitals located in rural Kenya and serves an estimated 15 million people.  The hospital endeavors to expand its Satellite Clinic in Eldoret. In this regard, the Management wishes to invite applications with requisite qualifications to fill the following vacancies: –

  1. OPHTHALMIC CLINICAL OFFICER (OCO)

Job Purpose/ Objective: The ophthalmic Clinical Officer has the overall responsibility to ensure that all eye health activities are implemented.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consultations at the clinic/OPD
  • Diagnose, manage and conduct cataract cases appropriately
  • Increase community awareness to participation in eye care especially cataract identification and referral
  • Perform cataract surgeries and refer complicated cases appropriately
  • Carry out corrective eye surgeries
  • Work in conjunction with Ophthalmologists and Optometrist and other health care officers to provide integrated, quality eye care to patients

Requirements

  • BSc Clinical Medicine (Comprehensive Ophthalmology and Cataract Surgery) OR

Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine- Ophthalmology/ Cataract surgery from a recognized Institution

  • Registered with the Clinical Officer’s Council- Kenya
  • A minimum of three years’ working experience (Post specialization)
  • Must be willing to work during odd hours and on weekends/holidays
  • Committed to work in multidisciplinary team
  1. OPTOMETRIST

Job Purpose / Objective: To provide primary eye care and address both eye health and visual concerns.

Key Responsibilities   

  • Carry out examination, diagnosis, treatment, management and prevention of disease and disorders of the visual system, the eye and associated structures
  • Co-ordinate the screening and refraction /low vision unit
  • Prescribe and fit eye glasses and contact lenses as well as safety eye wear and subnormal vision devises.
  • Provide vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation.
  • Work in conjunction with ophthalmologist and other health care providers to provide integrated, quality care for patients
  • Educate patients about vision and lifestyle choices for protecting and enhancing good vision and health

Qualifications

  • Degree in Optometry OR Diploma in Optometry from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of two years working experience as optometrist.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of advanced optical equipment.
  • Confident and articulate.
  • Responsible individual, exhibiting discipline and integrity.
  • A quick learner, adaptable and able to work well under pressure.
  • Good organization and administrative skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  1. PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGIST

Job purpose / Objective: To manage the Pharmacy on behalf of the hospital and the health care team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense prescribed medications and pharmaceutical preparations according to patients’ prescription.
  • Provide advice for non-prescription medications
  • Ensuring proper keeping of pharmacy records;
  • Requisition of drugs and other medical supplies.
  • Liaising with Procurement department regarding drugs and medical supplies orders to the clinic in a timely manner.
  • Receiving drug supplies from the procurement department and distribute the supplies accordingly.
  • Storage of drugs and health related commodities.
  • Ensuring good inventory management practices of the medicines and medical supplies, at the clinic.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Pharmacy from accredited institutions
  • Valid Registration and license by Pharmacy and Poisons Board/ Enrolled Pharmaceutical Technologist.
  • A minimum of two years’ working experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • Knowledge of policies and regulations pertaining to the procurement, supply and management of pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Strong commitment to care of patients and general customer service.
  • Excellent Communication skills – English and Kiswahili, written and spoken.
  • Computer Literate
  1. OPTICAL SHOP ATTENDANT

Job purpose / Objective: To provide optical services to patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guiding the patient through the process of selecting appropriate lens and frame materials as well as the type of design that would suit them cosmetically and fit adequately
  • Advising patients on any necessary repairs or adjustments
  • Maintaining displays
  • Basic bookkeeping duties associated with tracking patient’s orders and recording purchases and other necessary information for each patient
  • Preparing work orders for optical laboratory
  • Ensuring that all orders arrive and are to the specifications of the patient

Qualifications

  • A Diploma in Optical Technology from a reputable Institution
  • A minimum of two years working experience
  • Confident and articulate.
  • Responsible individual, exhibiting discipline and integrity.
  • A quick learner, adaptable and able to work well under pressure.
  • Good organization and administrative skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  1. NURSES (2 POSITIONS)

Job Purpose/ Objective: To provide holistic Ophthalmic nursing services to both inpatient and outpatient within the clinic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all required observations, prescribed treatment and procedures are properly carried out and documented on patient’s files.
  • Refer to the OCO on call relevant information such as patient’s status and laboratory results, which would assist in proper clinical management.
  • Give treatment of eye drops and other medicines as instructed by the clinician
  • Escort patient to other referral hospital when necessary.
  • Participate in camp eye health campaigns.
  • Give eye health education to patients and clients
  • Compile and submit monthly reports.
  • Monitor and supervise proper consumption of supplies and drugs.
  • Maintain drug registers and oversee drug consumption within the clinic.
  • Ensure that all admissions, discharges and transfers are properly documented as they occur.
  • Report any significant changes in operations to the OCO.
  • Carry out any other additional duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse from recognized nurse training institution
  • Higher Diploma in Ophthalmic nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Three years working experience
  1. ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT/ RECORDS OFFICER

Job Purpose / Objective: To provide general administrative support and oversee record management at the clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients and visitors, in person or over the phone
  • Answers the phone while maintaining a polite, consistent phone manner using proper telephone etiquette
  • Registers new patients and updates existing patient demographics by collecting detailed patient information including personal and financial information
  • Facilitates patient flow by notifying the nurse of patients’ arrival, being aware of delays, and communicating with patients and clinical staff
  • Respond to inquiries by patients, prospective patients, and visitors in a courteous manner
  • Keep medical office supplies adequately stocked by anticipating inventory needs, placing orders, and monitoring office equipment
  • Protects patient confidentiality, making sure protected health information is secured .
  • Protect medical records from loss or defacement prior to the end of retention periods
  • Process admission and discharge records accurately, and in a timely fashion

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Business management or equivalent
  • Knowledge of clinical procedures
  • Knowledge of office procedures
  • Basic computer skills (MS office)
  • Previous office administration or receptionist experience or a minimum of one-year work Experience in a medical office setting will be an added advantage
  1. ACCOUNTS CLERK

Job Function and Objectives: Reporting to the Finance and Admin Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible of providing and promoting financial accountability, efficiency and effectiveness of the clinic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receiving payments and writing receipts
  • Processing payments;
  • Carrying out bank reconciliation;
  • Overseeing insurance claims
  • Preparing bank reconciliation process;
  • Establishing tables of accounts, and assigning entries to proper accounts;
  • Preparing and verifying payment vouchers, petty cash vouchers and suppliers’ invoices in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations;
  • Balancing of cashbooks, imprest and advance ledgers;
  • Entering primary data and carrying out routine accounting work;
  • Maintaining efficient filling systems;
  • Safe keeping of invoices, receipts and other accounts records; and
  • Preparing books of accounts.
  • Recording and reconciling of debtors accounts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option), Business Administration (Accounting option) or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Must have at least two (2) years working experience in a reputable health facility.
  • Certificate in Computer Application Skills from a recognized institution.
  • CPA Section 4 or its equivalent
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good financial report writing skills.
  1. HOUSEKEEPER

Job Purpose / Objectives: To provide general cleaning of the facility and ensure a safe and hygienic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Raising and sustaining cleanliness and quality standards within the clinic
  • Disinfecting the theater and patient rooms.
  • Replenishing cleaning materials and supplies;
  • washing and ironing linen and ensuring proper storage of all equipment used.

Qualifications

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade ‘D’ plus or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; and
  • Formal training lasting not less than two (2) months in Housekeeping and/or Laundry or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
  • Proven experience of not less than 2 years in a health institution.
