Sabatia Eye Hospital is a leading not-for-profit and independent referral eye hospital based
in the western part of Kenya with satellite clinics in Kisumu and Eldoret. It is one of the
few tertiary eye hospitals located in rural Kenya and serves an estimated 15 million
people.
The hospital Management seeks to hire a suitable candidate with requisite qualifications
and experience to fill the following position:
Job Title: Optometrist
Reports to: Senior Optometrist
Location: Sabatia Eye Hospital, Satellite Clinic (Kisumu)
Roles and Responsibilities
- Carry out examination, diagnosis, treatment, management and prevention of disease and disorders of visual system, the eye and associated structures.
- Coordinate refraction
- Carry out pre-screening tests such as retinal imaging and pressure and visual field testing
- Diagnose ocular manifestation of systemic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure and complications of the aging process such as cataracts and macular degeneration
- Manage eye diseases and conduct referral surgical cases.
- Prescribe and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses as well as safety eyewear.
- Work in conjunction with ophthalmologist and other healthcare providers to provide integrated, quality care for patients
- Educated patients about vision and lifestyle choices for protecting and enhancing good vision and health.
- Conduct research and promote advancement in visual health.
Academic Qualifications
- Must have a Diploma in Optometry from a recognized institution. A degree in optometry would be an added advantage
- Experience of not less than 2 years in a busy environment as an Optometrist;
- Valid Practicing license from the Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority.

- Knowledge and experience in the use of advanced optical equipment.
- Confident and articulate
- Responsible individual, exhibiting discipline and integrity
- A quick learner, adaptable and able to work well under pressure
- Good organization and administrative skills
- Excellent attention to detail
